Summer NOW is officially over. That's the way we see it in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Don't look at the calendar. Summer ends early in September around here with a flourish: The Washington County Fair over Labor Day weekend followed the next weekend by the three-day sternwheel festival that ended Sunday.
We hope you soaked up lots of fun over both weekends including fireworks, funnel cakes, quality entertainment, the area's youth hard at work on the farm and along the river levee, boating excitement, classic cars on display and not-so-classic cars in smash-'em-up demolition derbies.
And the weather was glorious for the most part.
It's easy for those who enjoy the fair and the festival to lose sight of the fact that these events take year-round planning. So, we'd like to thank the fair board and sternwheel festival committee for their hard work and long hours. Your efforts draw thousands to our community to spend their dollars here.
These are two big reasons why it's special to call the Mid-Ohio Valley our home.
Of course, the fun doesn't stop now. The Barlow Fair, Lowell's Octoberfest and Belpre's apple butter stir-off are coming soon. Yes, it's a special time of the year in the Mid-Ohio Valley.
