Clyde J. Schafer, 85, of Reno, Ohio, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2013) at Arbors at Marietta.
He was born Wednesday, March 28, 1928, in Marietta, to the late Clyde Chauncey and Elizabeth Rosena (Ullman) Schafer.
In his younger days, Clyde played fast pitch softball, enjoyed bowling, and was a Bantam League baseball coach. He was a member of the Valley View Baptist Church and served in several capacities. Clyde was also a veteran who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Handschumaker Schafer; three children, Pam Harmon (Terry), Mark Schafer (Kathleen), Theresa Schramm (Rick); seven grandchildren, Jesse Harmon, Michael, Dylan, and Olivia Schafer, Sarah Kern (Nathan), Sally Wagner (Drew), Wesley Schramm (Kim), and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 9, 2013) at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, Ohio, 45750, with Beverly Pottmeyer officiating. Entombment to follow at East Lawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 8) at the funeral home and anytime on Saturday until the time of service.
