The Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau recently attended the 2014 Great Vacations Travel EXPO presented by AAA.
The show, held from Jan. 24 to 26 in Columbus, had an excellent turnout despite snowy and icy weather conditions.
Over the course of the three-day event, the CVB was able to disperse 1,600 of the 2014 Marietta-Washington County Getaway Guides. A significant number of the CVB's member rack cards and information on local area attractions were also distributed on the show floor.
The event was enjoyable for the CVB staff and for those in attendance at the event, according to Shannon Beecham, member relations and group tour coordinator for the Marietta-Washington County CVB. "It's rewarding when you hear a positive experience that a visitor has had in the past with the area," said Beecham. "The way our booth was decorated and set up made engaging the audience much easier. People were drawn towards our space before they even knew where we were located."
Businesses such as the Lafayette Hotel, Marietta Adventure Company, Found Antiques, Rossi Pasta, Campus Martius Museum, Prime Steak and Seafood and others contributed items for the CVB to use in its display.
Jeri Knowlton, executive director of the Marietta-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, explained the impact that this show can have on bringing people to the area. "Attendants of this show are actively seeking new travel destinations and eager to learn about what we have to offer," said Knowlton. "It's the perfect place and audience to promote Marietta-Washington County as a distinctive destination."
