A horse is calmed after being evacuated from a barn that caught fire late Thursday night at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
The fire, which started in a corner of the barn near the Marietta River Trail, was quickly extinguished and did not harm any animals, said Marietta Fire Capt. Marc Coppernoll. The fire was reported around 11:20 p.m. by a woman who had gone to the barn to feed her horses, he said. Marietta Fire Department Fire Inspector Richard Stewart was expected to be on scene that night and would make further determinations on whether or not the State Fire Marshal's office would be called in.
