Robert H. Silvus, 88, of Beverly, Ohio, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Muskingum Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Beverly.
He was born Aug. 7, 1925 in Center Township, Morgan County, Ohio, son of Nathaniel Cooley and Hazel Gessel Silvus.
He loved dairy farming, which he did most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces from Aug. 3, 1945 until April 8, 1947. He was a 67 year member of the Waterford Grange. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Beverly and he loved reminiscing with his cousins, family and friends.
He was married April 16, 1946 to Sarah K. Ponchak Silvus, who died April 1, 2013. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Wagner and husband Paul of Beverly; a granddaughter, Melissa Percic and husband Rich of Lisbon, Ohio; a sister, Glenna Tullius of Beverly; brother in-law, Branch Parsons; and a sister in-law, Harriette Ponchak.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers, William and Fred Silvus; and a sister, Alice Parsons.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly with Monsignor Robert Kawa officiating. Burial will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beverly-Waterford Rescue Squad.
