The Peoples Bancorp Foundation, a non-profit corporation formed to make donations in Peoples Bank market areas, recently pledged $500 to Community Action Corp of Washington/Morgan Counties to help fund the organization's back-to-school program.
During the past 17 years, Community Action has provided back-to-school items to children of low-income families in Washington and Morgan counties. The goal is to provide at least 150 children, in kindergarten through eighth grade, with new backpacks and school supplies.
"We love being a part of this effort each year," said Larry Holdren, Peoples Bank Sr. Vice President - Business Development and Community. "The services Community Action provides are needed and welcomed assistance for so many families in Washington and Morgan Counties."

Community Action is a non-profit community based organization that serves both Washington and Morgan Counties in Ohio. It is the product of area citizens caring for more than 40 years. In the 1960s, community leaders began meeting to assess local needs and determine a way to meet them. The organization was incorporated in 1967 and obtained funding for a family service center and outreach program, the first family planning program in the state of Ohio, and a full-year Head Start program. Today, Community Action provides an array of 50+ quality services from healthcare to delivery of meals throughout both counties.
Peoples Bancorp Foundation contributions focus on charitable giving in four major areas: community investment and economic development, youth and education, human services programs that improve the social needs of low- to moderate-income communities and individuals, and the arts and cultures. Organizations receiving grants meet those requirements and serve the markets where Peoples Bank currently has office locations.
