Vivain P. Cayton, 84, of Marietta, passed away on Aug. 28, 2014, at Harmar Place.
Vivian was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Covington, Ky., to Thomas Lee and Lucy Irene Pelley.
She graduated from Holmes High School in 1947 and Eastern Kentucky University in 1951. She married Robert Frank Cayton on June 15, 1951.
In 1963, the couple moved to Marietta, where Vivian taught art in the Marietta City Schools. For many years she served as senior class advisor. She loved teaching and interacting with her students, who affectionately called her "Mama". It gave her great pleasure to see her students go on to achieve success.
She is survived by five children, Andrew (Mary) Cayton of Oxford, Ohio, Renanne (Jeff) Welch of Marietta, Amy (Bob) Lazear of Columbus, Ohio, Ellen Cayton of Laurel, Md., and Daphne (Terry) Styer of Marietta. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Elizabeth (Victor) Broccoli and Hannah Cayton, Ryan (Emily) Welch, Brett Welch and Kyle Welch, Matthew (Adrien) Lazear and Emily (Marq) Lazear, and Keith Morey and Amanda Styer. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Kylee, Bryce and Aubree Welch and Eric Morey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
The family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Harmar Place for many years of loving care.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 4, and a memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Friday morning, Sept. 5, at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel.
