lol, deal, lets attack ALL the problems instead of the "hot button" in the news today;)
fair enough.....i can agree with that.
your last statement against failure can go many ways! What about our defense contracts that balloon due to failure and we end up paying 300% more etc that our tax dollars, what about oil companies making record profits yet we pay them subsidies, what about paying farmers to not grow corn, and others to grow corn, and yet we don't need that much corn! What about pharmaceutical companies running rampant, wall street, credit cards etc etc etc that are really killing us? There's alot of blame and waste to spread around. I'm just kinda getting worn out of the lack of attention to the real crooks and laser guided missile attack against the poor! It just seems misguided to me! Not that it doesn't need attention, just that it distracts from other bigger more pressing problems!
asknot, first off i am flattered and would like to recipricate the respect. thank you. actually, i think we have allowed expansion more into Collectivism rather than Socialism. anyway....i agree with you on the grade, although i initially thought that a C would be fair...but then i thought about the ACA and the grade dropped. i think in between the bank bailouts, the auto bailouts and our governments attempt to invest into chosen industries, we have allowed our government to venture away from its intended purpose. personally i think our elected representatives have an obligation to insure we have an atmosphere in which to pursue our endeavors as unimpeded as possible. one last thought. as long as the government continues to guarantee against ones failure without penalty, then the failures will continue.
Tiredofit, socialism has been around for a hundred+ years in this country! Are we becoming more socialist, yes, but, its not the reason our country is failing. We are failing because of decades of corruption and waste. 1 % of Americans own 42% of the money. We are a dying capitalist society that needs change. We keep on keeping on, doing the same cr ap and expect a different result. Then we try to change something and everyone gets up in arms about it.
But, you and I both have enjoyed socialism for our entire lives, should we reel it back in a bit, yes, but its not what's killing us.
Socialism is the REASON we are where we are right now, more of it will not help.
LTS, will all due respect(actually, you're one of the few voices on here I do respect) how is our system working out for us these days? What grade would you give it? I'm gonna go with a D. I'm not saying socialism is the answer and I don't agree we are that today, but, I think a mixing and matching of ideas might be a solution.

the free-market has served the vatican bank fairly well considering the interest income returned by its investments...which btw they do not pay a tax on. the pope has a socialist mentality and sounds good to many. however in practical terms it is a problem begging for another problem rather than a solution to a problem. in my mind, the papals solution does not adrees the individuals problem. a socialist atmosphere does not promote self-growth or self-worth like a capitalist society. that has been proven time and time again. thats the funny nature of humans...we fail to learn the first go'round. just think we have the audacity to call ourselves "the intelligent animal" !
"As long as the problems of the poor are not radically resolved by rejecting the ABSOLUTE autonomy of the markets and financial speculation, and by attacking the structural causes of inequality, no solution will be found for the world's problems, or for that matter, to any problems". Pope Francis

lts - When it comes to the negative effects to be inflicted upon the American working class, when it comes to ObamaCare, (IMO) "Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, Baby, you just ain't seen nothing yet"!!!
speaking of beatings... the democrats and the president deserve one for the confusion and lurch that they have left the american people in regarding their healthcare. one more please......
Merry Christmas moderation. morale and productivity come from within. the beatings are optional. :-)
Merry Christmas, lts-"when i see an appreciable change in the number of people that i find absolute in their lack of initiative under our current system, then i will modify ny stance and lessen my absolute stance. until then... the truth is absolute". And, until morale improves, the beatings will continue. Now,that is educational. (:
