@Greek - Glad to hear it! We finally agree on something. Enjoy the moment, because it won't last!
All I am saying is that it is your parties turn to put their money where their mouthes are and do it right. You all sure have crucified Bush and Cheney for making the similar decisions on sketchy intel. It is a good thing Hillary resigned or we would have been NUKED by now !!!WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE AT THIS POINT (Hillary Clinton to Congeress about the Benghazi scandal.)
Yes, Greek, I know that Hillary and Kerry voted for the Iraq war. Colin Powell was snookered too, but today, only fringies like yourself and some others that hang out her still believe that Saddam had anything to do with 9-11 ... THAT was caused by that guy that the Bush folks allowed to escape in Tora Bora - you know, the guy that Obama & Seal Team 6 whacked in Pakistan ... Saddam was the one with the mustache and NO WMDs!
AND I hate war. My 18 year old cousin was killed in Quang Nam in the Tet Offensive. While you were probably a college deferral and protesting the war !!
I'm not suggesting that reading a book can solve the current dilemma - BUT it's better that reading Drudge or being fixated by FOX ... Having a little insight about the "lessons of the past" might be helpful ... "Suppose they gave a war and nobody came?" ... ASSad is a creep who does deserve payback! Where's "James Bond" and the "A-Team" when they're really needed?
In reference to Assad,greek,...the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.google assad's father.
No. Hillary and Kerry voted FOR war in Iraq in the intel they had. We went there because of the twin towers. Remember that don't you ??? 3000 innocent Americans killed. Here we are again with sketchy intel and Obama and Kerry lobbying for a strike !! Same situation only no americans involved. your turn..
Greek just took off to play "World at War" games with John McCain? Hi, LTS! How'd that 1861-65 little dustup work out fer y'all again?
"She"? Shirley you jest?
@Greek - Sounds to me like you never met a war you didn't like! If Congress votes to take military action, I hope they do it to save kids from being gassed, and not just to score macho points and/or fulfill the hope that Obama will become the failure that Bish #43 has become in the eyes of history ... You righties are such hypocrites. By opposing Obama on this one, I'm being consistent. While the Neanderthal folks were jumping up and down cheering the 2003 Iraq invasion, I wrote a letter to The TIMES warning of the consequences and telling how Americans were snookered by the "Gulf of Tonkin" hoax and the 1898 "Remember the Maine" snowjob ... The local war-mongers didn't pay attention then either!
lts- she's baaaaaack (:
@Greekster - Don't you rightwing folks always claim that the President needs to uphold The U.S. Constitution? The Constitution says that only "Congress shall have the power to declare war"! So, he left the decision to Congress (but he could legally take action under the "War Powers Act" if he could prove that Assad poses an international threat beyond his borders ... Just because the guys that YOU probably supported (Nixon? Reagan? Bush #43?) didn't care about The Constitution, doesn't mean that Obama should repeat their blunders ... If Obama would do nothing, you jerks would call him a "wimp". If he takes any kind of action, you'll want him impeached. It's a no-win situation. I still respect the President, but the REAL lessons of history (not the fake junk you righties get from Beck & Huckabee) says it's a slippery slope ... Let Israel and the Saudis take on Assad!
WRONG answer Oneill. You suggest they read a book on how to fight this war ???? OMG...Remember Kerry and Barry are lobbying to fire a shot over the bow of Syria... This is your parties chance to shine or own another war !!!
What do you suggest your beloved Barry do Oneill????????? Here is your chance to shine since you have been giving ole d u m b a s $ Cheney and Bush h e l l all this time. It is the dems turn for some no win situational WAR !!!
Sword" by Barbara Tuchman (better known for "The Guns of August" which told about Sarajevo and how W.W.I started), "Warriors of God" by James Reston Jr. (the first part of that book was adapted into the Ridley Scott film, "Kingdonm of Heaven") or "Rats, Lice, and History" by Hans Zinsser ... "A little learning is a dangerous thing" - especially so for the dimwits who only pick up their historical insight from the likes of Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly! ... Obama's "legacy" will be fine if only he avoids LBJ's quagmire!
Oneill, your Dem. guys are about to be suckered into a war too so I would be cautious what you say. Barry don't know what to do so he turned it over to congress cause he ran on a no more war platform. It IS rather tough to see the pictures and hear Feinstein saying "people that vote NO have not seen the evidence that I have seen". It may just turn out to be more than a dumb republican hair brained move as you like to assess at!!!Russia has 2 destroyers in the area and their guns aint trained on Syria, they are trained on US...If/when we arrive, it may be an ambush !!!
Not only are folks thinking about the Bush/Cheney con job re. Iraq, they (at least the ones who don't suffer from long-term memory lapse)are thinking about LBJ and the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution. Johnson wanted to be remembered as the President who sponsored the Civil Rights Act and won the "War on Poverty". He listened to Robert MacNamara and McGeorge Bundy and became the subject of lines like "Hey, hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today?" ... On a lighter note, I see that "Eric the Red (Baiter)" is at it again in today's TIMES - as usual, he confuses "common-sense" with "communism"> Oooh! Be vewwy afwaid! No, the "Tatars" did not cause the "Black Death" (it was brought to Europe after 1300 by fleas who lived on rats aboard all ships coming from the east - including the ones carrying homecoming Crusaders), nor was "Progressive" President Teddy Roosevelt a "commie"! Read "Bible and Swor
and review the iraq operation from the beginning you will find that Saddam acted in much the same way as Assad and the intelligence community of many nations agreed. vast one-world conspiracy???? possibly or as now an proof-positive indicator of the ineffectiveness of the United Nations and many of its member nations.
moderation, without the ability to have accurate reporting on the ground in Syria, we are left to rely on less than reliable information regarding the actual guilty party. this observation is based on the number of news outlets that have stated such. your characterization of the apparent reversal in opinion of teabag/republicans based on political ideology may be valid, or could indicate a new way of thinking in regards to national threats verses the worlds police force point of view. one early report, which i believe still holds true, is that the Saudi's announced that they would cover all costs with the military intervention in Syria. on one hand this does eliminate one con argument against entering the conflict, but it also indicates that we can be bought as the worlds "gun-for-hire". that may be the case in all of our recent interventions, but this leaves no doubt as to our including the title of middle-east prostitute in our legacy. however, i do think if you go back an
