VIENNA — Five Williamstown goals in the first eight minutes of play propelled the Yellowjackets out to a swift 5-1 lead and the visitors went on to post an 11-1 boys soccer victory over Parkersburg Catholic Thursday evening at Jackson Park.

The impressive win, highlighted by a five-goal burst by junior Dylan Cosner, squared Williamstown’s record at 1-1 heading into the ‘Jackets’ home opener at 2 p.m. Saturday versus Philip Barbour.

For Catholic, which dropped to 0-2 on the season, the Crusaders’ lone goal was tallied by Cole Terosky at 34:05 of the first half, slicing Williamstown’s 2-0 lead in half.

But five more first-half ‘Jacket goals before halftime rocketed the ‘Jackets out to a 7-1 advantage with still 40 minutes left to be play yet.

The match had barely begun when Williamstown, with just 34 seconds gone, went ahead 1-0, then tacked on another goal before Terosky notched his score.

However, the Yellowjackets’ first-half spurt continued with goals at the 32:44 mark, followed by scores at 32:19, 31:55, 29:53 and finally at 13:01 for a six-goal lead at intermission.

The second half produced four more tallies for Williamstown, with three other ‘Jacket booters — Grant Bobbitt, Mason Bosgraf and Boston Caruthers — finishing with two goals apiece, while Cosner, who had notched four scores in the first half, added his fifth in the second half.

Both Bobbitt’s goals came in the first half, while both of Caruthers’ scores were in the second half and Bosgraf bagged his goals one in each half.

“Everything was great today, and we did a great job,” said Williamstown head coach Telma Poole. “This team is really young, and they came to show me how good they will be on the field. It was 100 percent energy for them today. They never give up and give it all that they can do.”

Catholic next takes to the soccer pitch at St. Marys on Tuesday for a 6:30 matchup with the Blue Devil booters.
