VINCENT — Warren senior setter Victoria Lewis surpassed the 1,000 career assist mark here Saturday afternoon as the host Warriors swept a home volleyball triangular versus Parkersburg Catholic and Ironton.

The Warriors (10-4) concluded the day by topping the Crusaderettes 26-24 and 25-10. Head coach Michelle Tyo’s squad, which plays host Thursday in volley for a cure against Shenandoah, also defeated Ironton 25-20 and 25-23. PCHS (5-6) handed the Fighting Tigers (3-8) a 25-18 and 25-13 setback.

Amanda Weatherwax’s PCHS club failed to get anything going in set two versus the Warriors after nearly winning the opener.

Warren bolted out to an 8-2 cushion in set one versus the Crusaderettes following an Autumn Miller block on Lainie Ross and an Abby Gilliand service tally. Aaliyah Brunny, who had a match-high eight kills, cut the deficit to five at 13-8 with a downed spike.

After an ace by Paige Stotts, Beth Lowther tipped a ball past a block into an empty space to help PCHS close to within 14-10. Lewis, who had a match-high 15 assists while PCHS setter Jenna Boice had 14, made it 18-12 with an ace.

The Crusaderettes still trailed 18-13 after a Grace Wojcik attack wasn’t returned, but Warren led 20-16 after consecutive kills by Caspen Ford and Kaylee Ullman.

Down but not out, Ross later served for five straight points, including an ace, and when Brunny put another to the floor, the Warriors trailed 23-22. Although an ace by Kara Ferguson tied it at 23, PCHS had a chance to win after Ferguson’s service error.

However, Boice’s serve went into the net to make it 24-all. PCHS then had an attack error and Madison Foy’s kill gave Warren the first set on what proved to be assist No. 1,000 for Lewis.

“I couldn’t do it without my teammates,” said an emotional Lewis, a three-year starting setter, of her accomplishment. “That was always a goal. As a sophomore, you start off with zero and it’s so many.”

When asked if she knew exactly how many she needed, Lewis replied “my mom did. I didn’t really know. My mom said I might hit it today. It just depended on how we played.

“We definitely played as a team today. All these guys are my best friends. Throughout the season, we’ve become more like family.”

The Crusaderettes, who got eight digs from libero Gracie Lowers and six from Grace Pedersen, never led in set two. PCHS opened the set by getting an in-the-net call and then Ford served the hosts ahead 8-0, thanks in part to a pair of aces.

Warren, which also received six digs from Jacey Barnes, had a chance to end the afternoon with Miller serving out, but on match point, she put it into the net.

“I tossed it way too low and it was totally my bad,” Lewis said of her service error. “I missed my serve and then she (Ross) missed her serve.”

Brunny and Stotts combined for 15 kills while Lowers and Ross had two aces each in their triumph versus Ironton, which was led by Samantha LaFon’s nine kills and Kameron Arden’s seven assists. Elli Williams, Riley Schreck and Lydia Hannan each had an ace for the Fighting Tigers.

Ironton, which was playing without both of its regular middle hitters, held a 20-17 cushion in set two versus Warren following an Arden ace, but Ullman proceeded to register three of her match-high 13 kills as the Warriors rallied.

With Barnes toeing the service line, a Foy kill set up match point and Ironton’s day concluded with an in-the-net call.

LaFon had nine more kills while Schreck had three and Demi Sands two.
