Cadets romp Magnolia, complete perfect regular season

NEW MARTINSVILLE, W.Va. — Fort Frye scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and four more in the second to run away with a 69-8 win over Magnolia Friday night.

The Cadets competed a perfect 10-0 regular season and will now await their first-round playoff matchup.

Tyler Fisher ran for 185 yards and four touchdowns to lead Fort Frye, which out-gained the Blue Eagles 393-102.

Brian Adkins ran for an 8-yard TD and caught a 20-yard TD from Ian Ellis. Brady Schilling returned a punt 62 yards for a score while Zane Wallace (53 yards), Collin Welsh (42 yards) and Owen Brown (38 yards) each ran for touchdowns.

Magnolia, which visits Wheeling Central next week in search of its first win, got on the board with 10:36 left in the game when Caden Cisar connected with Silas McKeever for a 51-yard scoring strike. Mikey Hamrick led the Blue Eagles with 34 yards on seven carries. McKeever caught four balls for 54 yards.

Shenandoah 14, Caldwell 6

CALDWELL — Shenandoah will carry an 8-2 record into next week’s postseason as the visiting Zeps clipped Caldwell here Friday night, 14-6.

The Zeps fumbled the ball on the second play of the game, which allowed Caldwell (2-8) to drive into the red zone before Kade Varhola had an interception.

Following a scoreless opening quarter, Briar Portman unloaded a 51-yard punt to the Redskin 2. After a three-and-out, SHS got the ball back on the 29, which led to a 12-yard touchdown pass from Kendal Sherman to Portman. Easton Hitchens’ extra point was true for a 7-0 lead at the 4:58 mark.

Caldwell, which had just six first downs and lost the total yards battle 231-140, responded with a Caden Moore 5-yard score 3:07 later, but the extra point was no good as the hosts trailed 7-6 at intermission.

The lone six-pointer of the second half came at 7:24 in the third on a Sherman 1-yard TD. Portman had a pair of 10-yard runs and a 31-yard burst on the drive.

Portman finished with game-highs of 25 carries for 175 yards.

Caldwell was led in the rushing department by Moore (15-72) and signal-caller Braxton Dudley (19-62).

The two squads had 10 penalties apiece for 151 yards (80 by CHS) and combined to go 4 of 12 through the air for 28 stripes.

St. Marys 27, Ravenswood 6

RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. — The St. Marys defense came to play, causing four turnovers, including a 33-yard pick-6 from Dylan Patterson in the fourth, en route to a 27-6 road win versus Ravenswood on the Red Devils’ senior night Friday.

Quarterback Brennan Boron and Ben Long each scored a touchdown in the second quarter inside the 10 to give the No. 8 Blue Devils a 14-0 lead going into halftime.

Ravenswood made it a one-score game in the third when Red Devil QB Sam Sturm punched his way into the end zone on a 5-yard run.

Long scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on a 2-yard run and Patterson’s pick-6 in the fourth quarter sealed the deal.

In addition to his two scores, Long was the game’s leading rusher with 102 yards on 14 carries. William Steele rushed for 39 yards on five carries and also had 38 yards on one catch.

Sheridan 46, Morgan 0

McCONNELSVILLE — Morgan High struggled in its final game of the season Friday night, falling to Sheridan 46-0.

The Raiders, who finished their season 1-9, netted just 16 total yards of offense compared to the Generals’ (8-2) 466.

Alex Greuey led MHS with 26 yards on six rushes.
