Marietta swimmers at Penguin Invitational Saturday
Marietta High’s swim teams are scheduled to compete in the PHS Penguin Invitational at the Parkersburg YMCA at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The Parkersburg Y, the home pool of the Big Reds, is not too far away from the Parkersburg Boys and Girls Club, where both MHS and the Parkersburg South Patriots practice.
The Tigers’ home pool was formerly at the Family Y on 7th Street in Marietta until it was closed last year.
Marietta High’s boys are coached by Walt Teer while Rachael Weekley is the girls boss.
The MHS boys are led by seniors’ Jackson Macatol, Oscar Hampton, Garrett Herb, Devin Potter, and Hayden Reed.
At Penguin, Macatol is expected to swim in both the 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.
Look for Hampton to be in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle relay and Herb in the 200 freestyle relay. Reed will probably be entered in the 400 freestyle relay.
The juniors on the team are Sam Gottfried, Alejandro Gavrel Olavarria, Shawn Powers, Carson Urban, and J.B. Wharff.
Powers is expected to swim in both the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay while Gottfried and Wharff will be in the 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay, respectively.
Sophomores’ Nathan Johnson and Owen Zundell both figure to be very busy in four events at Penguin.
Look for Johnson in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
Zundell may be swimming in the 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
The Tiger boys roster also includes sophomore Dean Morris and freshmen Justin Morgan, William Palmer, and Robert Hite.
The Marietta girls are led by seniors’ Ashley Stewart, Reagan Loeber, Sam Zumwalde, Madison Lee and Audrey Hearing.
Stewart swims in the 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 200 freestyle relay while Loeber will be in the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 medley relay, and 200 freestyle relay.
Look for Zumwalde in the 200 medley relay.
Liliana Ditchendorf is the lone junior on the roster.
The MHS sophomores are Kayla Stewart, Emily Arnold, Lauren Clark, Allison Damron, Katryna Temesvary, and Ruth Koast.
Stewart will be in the 50 freestyle, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay, while Clark is expected to be entered in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, and 200 freestyle relay.
Kennedy Hearing is the lone frosh on the team.
