The Mid-Ohio Valley Hall of Fame Class of 2020 has been announced.

Set to be inducted in this year’s class includes: James Ashbire (Ripley), Maggie Drazba (Pleasants), Tyler Engle (Fort Frye), Chase Fischer (Ripley), Dail Harper (Caldwell), Mary A. Lopez (Parkersburg Catholic), Josh Miller (Ravenswood), Paul Page (Williamstown), Jon Shuler (Marietta) and Shane Smith (Williamstown).

The Class of 2020 Induction Banquet is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2020, at the Grande Pointe Conference and Reception Center in Vienna.

Pioneers’ Yenzi

earns OAC honor

AUSTINTOWN — Marietta College junior Damian Yenzi was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week by the conference office. This is the second time Yenzi has earned the award this season.

Yenzi helped lead the Etta Express to a 6-3 record at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida last week. He started all nine games at third base and hit a team-leading .421 on the week after hitting safely in all but one game and collecting six multiple-hit games.

Batting in the lead-off spot, Yenzi finished the week 16-of-38 at the plate. He had three doubles and an inside the park home run. The junior drove in 8 runs and scored 12 others. He also walked four times and was hit by a pitch once, posting a .477 on base percentage.

Against No. 21 ranked Wooster, Yenzi went 2-for-5 at the plate with a double, a home run and four runs batted in. He notched three hits in games against Swarthmore and the University of Pittsburgh Bradford.

For the season, Yenzi batted .429 and led the Pioneers with 21 hits and 14 runs scored. He was also tops on the team with 2 home runs and tied for the team lead with 12 runs batted in.

Marietta finished the shortened 2020 season with a 9-3 record and ranked No. 18 in the d3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25.

OHSAA to hold press

conference Thursday

COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association will host a press conference at noon Thursday, March 19, at the OHSAA office, Executive Director Jerry Snodgrass has announced.

The press conference will be streamed live through OHSAA.tv and the OHSAA’s social media platforms (@OHSAASports on Twitter and Facebook).

Snodgrass will provide updates and information on the OHSAA’s winter tournaments that were postponed indefinitely last Thursday, along with updates on spring sports. He will also take questions from media.

OHSAA member schools are encouraged to watch the press conference, as Snodgrass will respond to some of the frequently asked questions from the past several days.

MHS alumni hoops tourney PPD

This year’s Marietta High School Alumni Basketball Tournament has been postponed based on Governor Mike DeWine’s announcement concerning the current Coronavirus outbreak. Marietta City Schools and Marietta Athletic Boosters will reconvene to discuss a possible rescheduling at a later date.
