MHS volleyball team gets district awards

After a 19-5 season in 2020, the Marietta High volleyball team received well deserved recognition in District 13.

Veteran head coach Ron Kidder was named the Division I Coach of the Year, while senior Sydney Wright was the Defensive Player of the Year and junior Maddy Muntz was the Offensive Player of the Year.

Juniors Sophie Evans (first team), Grace Wojcik (second team), Mackenzie Wright (second team) and Emily Arnold (third team) all were honored, as was freshman Kate Evans (honorable mention).

“To me, we had a wonderful season,” Kidder said. “We lost six talented seniors from the previous season, and to come back and have a 19-5 record and all the accomplishments we had, I’m very proud.”

The Tigers have an opportunity to carry this success into the next few seasons as well.

“We have a bright future,” Kidder said. “We have a very talented freshman class, and we have an eighth grade class that went 23-0 this season. There’s going to be a lot of talent at Marietta next year.”
