Fort Frye tops Caldwell, 54-34
CALDWELL — Kelton Fogle poured in 24 points to help visiting Fort Frye take down Caldwell 54-34 Friday night.
A tight 9-8 Caldwell lead after one quarter turned into a 19-13 Fort Frye halftime advantage after Fogle tallied all 11 of the Cadets’ points in the second period.
Bede Lori, who led the Redskins with 23 points, opened the third quarter with a bucket to cut Fort Frye’s lead to four, but Nic Hart and Braden Medley notched back-to-back buckets for the Cadets.
Later, 3-pointers by Hart and Fogle gave the Cadets a double-digit lead, 31-19.
Bede Lori’s basket-and-one got Caldwell (3-4) back within single digits momentarily, but Fogle quickly answered with another 3, and Fort Frye (7-1) led by double figures the the rest of the way.
A 3-pointer by Luke Huffman, a bucket by Garrett Lipot and a free-throw by Dawson Layton helped the Cadets stretch their lead to as many as 24, 50-26, in the final period.
Hart, who came off the bench in the game, chipped in 13 points for the Cadets, who visit rival Waterford on Tuesday.
Caldwell’s Jett Lori, the team’s second-leading scorer, was held scoreless in the game, fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Caldwell shot just 27% from the floor compared to 44% for Fort Frye. The Cadets overcame a 6 for 17 shooting display at the free-throw line.
Matt Kowalski netted seven points for the Redskins, who are right back in action Saturday at Martins Ferry.
