Bryce Agnew carried 26 times for 191 yards and three touchdowns, and the Marietta College defense bottled up Muskingum as the Pioneers defeated the Muskies 29-7 Friday night at Don Drumm Stadium.

Marietta improved to 2-2 and will play host to Wilmington next Friday in an Ohio Athletic Conference crossover game.

Agnew scored on touchdown runs of 10 and 61 yards in the second quarter to give the Pioneers a 14-0 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Marietta’s defense forced a three-and-out and Chris Ryan blocked the punt. The ball rolled into the end zone, where the Muskingum punter kicked it out of the end zone for a safety to make it 16-0.

Later in the quarter, Agnew found the end zone again from 6 yards out to put MC up 22-0.

On Muskingum’s ensuing drive, Marietta safety Darius Hatch picked off Muskie quarterback Jordan Garrett and returned it 60 yards to the house to make it 29-0.

There was only 5:53 remaining in the game when Muskingum finally put up points. Garrett connected on a TD pass to Cameron Near from 9 yards out to make it 29-7.

Garrett, who was pressured all night by Marietta, completed 18 of 37 passes for 203 yards. He threw two interceptions — one to Hatch and another to Jaelon Quiero-Gordon in the first quarter.

He was sacked twice — once by Kyle Gallagher and once by Drake Neuberger, who has an OAC-leading seven sacks on the year.

Marietta’s run defense was just as good, holding Muskingum to 56 yards on 31 carries. Garrett, a mobile quarterback, ran 11 times for nine yards.

The Pioneers won despite not getting much going in the passing game. Ethan Brown was 7 for 18 for 42 yards and was intercepted once by Yo-Vonne Roberts. Marietta also had three drops.
