PREP FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Fort Frye and Waterford come out on top

Fort Frye 45, Trimble 13

GLOUSTER — In one of the toughest places to play in Southeast Ohio, Fort Frye set the tone early in a 45-13 win over Trimble Friday night.

The Cadets blocked a punt on the Tomcats’ opening drive and then scored on Ethan Duskey’s 20-yard touchdown run. After another defensive stop, the Cadets scored another TD on Ian Ellis’ 2-yard TD rush.

Ellis then conected with Maeson Long on the two-point conversion to quickly make it 15-0.

Trimble answered on Tabor Lackey’s 3-yard TD run, but Ellis and Austin Powell both had 2-yard rushing scored to stretch Fort’s lead to 30-7. Bryce Downs ran into the end zone from 14 yards out to make it 30-13 at halftime.

Ellis tossed a 51-yard touchdown to Braxton Brown in the third quarter, and Long ran for a 60-yard score in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on Fort Frye’s 39th straight regular season victory.

Long finished with 160 yards on 12 carries, a much-needed performance with fellow backfield standouts Owen Brown and Collin Welsh out due to injury. Ellis competed 6 of 10 passes for 74 yards, with Brown hauling in four of those balls for 74 yards.

Downs and Lackey combined for just 60 rushing yards on 24 carries. Lackey was 18 for 33 passing for 197 yards, with Downs making six receptions for 84 yards.

Shenandoah 22,

Marietta 12

SARAHSVILLE — Everything fell apart for Marietta at halftime.

The Tigers led 6-0 at the break, but it was all Shenandoah in the second half as the Zeps claimed a 22-12 Homecoming win Friday night.

In the second quarter, Marietta forced and recoverd a fumble at its own 10 to halt a potential Shenandoah scoring drive, but the Tigers fumbled it right back two plays later.

The Zeps had goal-to-go inside the 10, but on fourth down, Weston Davis broke up a pass in the end zone to force a turnover on downs.

Finally, with 1:26 left in the first half, points were scored as Zach Bartlett plunged into the end zone from a yard out to make it 6-0, Tigers.

Shenandoah got the ball to start the second half and tied the game on Nathan Van Fleet’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Brendan Portman. Van Fleet then ran in the two-point conversion to make it 8-6, Zeps, with 8:01 left in the third.

Shenandoah got the ball back at midfield after forcing Marietta into a three-and-out. Tyce DeVolld powered into the end zone from a yard out and then ran in the two-pointer to make it 16-6.

Marietta’s ensuing possession resulted in an interception, and that led to a 5-yard rushing touchdown by DeVolld.

Marietta cut it to 22-12 in the fourth on a big play by Elyjah Lieras-Kelley, but the Zeps were able to close it out.

DeVolld rushed for 206 yards in the game.

Dover 49, Warren 7

DOVER — Warren’s Dennis Pettey caught a 5-yard touchdown pass from Trent Taylor with 4:57 left in regulation Friday night.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, host Dover had already scored 42 points up to that point and claimed a 49-7 victory.

Taylor completed 13 of 27 passes for 111 yards to lead the Warren offense, which was outgained 415 to 131 on the night. Pettey caught seven passes for 48 yards.

Joey Farthing, who finished with three catches for 93 yards for Dover, caught two long TD passes in the opening quarter to set the tone.

Dover quarterbacks T.C Molk (6 for 8, 123 yards), Ayden Hall (4 for 5, 85 yards) and Jonah Marks (1 for 1, 36 yards) accounted for 244 yards of offense in the passing game.

Warren, which dropped to 2-4 and visits Vinton County next week, won the turnover battle 2-1.

Waterford 32, Eastern 6

REEDSVILLE — Waterford snapped a two-game losing skid with a 32-6 victory over Eastern Friday night.

The Wildcats got on the board first with a 60-yard touchdown run by Holden Dailey to make it 6-0 with 6:50 left in the first quarter.

Later in the opening period, Grant McCutcheon tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Jake Pantelidis to make it 13-0.

It became 20-0 when McCutcheon’s quick strike to Dailey went for a 79-yard touchdown at the 10:04 mark in the second.

Dailey recorded his third touchdown of the half when he ran in from 8 yards out with 3:06 left in the half, stretching Waterford’s lead to 26-0. The Wildcats took that advantage into halftime.

Dailey added another score with 9:35 left in the game to make it 32-0.

Dailey finished with 212 yards on 15 attempts, while McCutcheon was 12 for 16 for 124 yards passing. Lane Cline had an interception on defense.

Waterford improved to 3-2 with a trip to Southern on the slate next week.
