Roundup: Watterson eliminates Warren, 44-7
COLUMBUS — A 27-point second quarter by Watterson blew open Friday’s playoff game against Warren as the Eagles tolled to a 44-7 victory.
The Warriors finished the season 7-4, while top-seeded Watterson improved to 11-0.
Tommy Haley caught a pair of touchdowns from Drew Bellisari, who finished 12 for 21 for 160 yards. Zack Weber rushed for a pair of touchdowns while Ben Uhlenhake and Caiden Mangini each scored once on the ground.
Warren got on the board with 3:20 left in the game on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Sealey to Tanner Pepper. Sealey finished 14 for 21 for 143 yards and was picked off once. James Peyton led the receiving corps with 80 yards on six receptions. Warren struggled to get the run game going as Landon Fairbanks led the way with 19 yards on eight attempts.
It was a successful year for the Warriors, who won the Twin State League championships and made their first playoff appearance since 2020.
Tyler Consolidated 39, St. Marys 12
KIDWELL, W.Va. — Brandon Winfrey scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half to get Tyler Consolidated off to a hot start against St. Marys Friday.
The hosts went on to win 39-12 to improve to 6-3 on the year. The Silver Knights will visit Doddridge County in a huge Class A showdown in next Friday’s regular season finale. The Blue Devils dropped to 3-6 and will play host to Ravenswood next week.
Winfrey finished with 111 yards on 22 carries for Tyler, which also saw quarterback Brady Strode run for two touchdowns and throw for one, a 50-yarder to Reese Davis. Christopher Hackathorn also had a rushing touchdown for the Silver Knights, who won the turnover battle 3-1.
Ryan Kent paced St. Marys with 81 yards on 18 rushes. His 4-yard touchdown had SMHS trailing just 7-6 late in the first quarter. Tyler led 14-6 at halftime, but scored 26 straight points in the second half to pull away.
Kent added a 71-yard TD run with 2:25 left in the game to cap off the scoring.
Spring Mills 37, Parkersburg South 0
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Eli Bartley ran for 104 yards on 22 carries, but visiting Parkersburg South was unable to get on the scoreboard in Friday’s 37-0 loss to Spring Mills.
Blake Sanders rushed for 53 yards and scored two touchdowns while Max Anderson was 12 for 15 passing for 161 yards and two TDs to lead SMHS (8-1).
The Patriots (5-4) will close out the regular season next week at Princeton. Quarterback Collins Hayes was 11 for 26 for 82 yards. He threw three interceptions. Devon Forshey caught six passes for 38 yards.
