Kendall Sury gets 1,000th point as Wildcats roll past Tomcats

WATERFORD — For the second time this season, a Waterford senior eclipsed the 1,000-point mark.
Thursday at the Harry Cooper Annex, Kendall Sury made a layup against Trimble to surpass the milestone, joining teammate Avery Wagner who accomplished the feat earlier this season.
Sury finished with seven points, four rebounds and three steals as the Wildcats routed the Tomcats 47-15 to improve to 16-1 on the year.
Head coach Jerry Close’s Wildcats have a major rivalry showdown with Dan Liedtke’s Fort Frye Cadets (13-2) at 6 p.m. Monday in Beverly. A two-quarter JV contest will precede the varsity matchup.
Freshman Brynlee Pottmeyer led Waterford in scoring Thursday with 13 points. Elsie Malec also reached double figures with 11 points. Avery Wagner finished with eight points, four boards and six blocks while Avery Smithberger chipped in six points.

Trimble, which trailed 20-4 after a quarter and 39-6 at halftime, got six points from Rilynn Fouts.
Waterford shot a scorching 58.8% (16 for 34) from the floor.
Fort Frye 54, Warren 36
BEVERLY — Fort Frye prevailed in a Twin State League rematch with Warren Thursday.
Less than a week after besting the Warriors 36-25 in Vincent, the Cadets took down WHS 54-36 Thursday at Dan Liedtke Court.
Emmie Duskey, who was the Cadets’ lone player honored as part of senior night, led all scorers with 24 points. Duskey buried four 3-pointers to help FFHS finish 4-2 in TSL play.
Fort Frye, which plays host to rival Waterford Monday, also got 15 points from Ava Huffman and eight more from Ella Dowler.
Warren, which dropped to 8-6 overall and 1-4 in the league, got 11 points from Jayda Murray and 10 from Mackenzie James-McGuire. The Warriors travel to Point Pleasant Saturday to wrap up TSL play.
The Cadets led 18-8 after a quarter and 34-16 by halftime.
BOYS
Waterford 49, Trimble 46
WATERFORD — The close games are starting to fall in Waterford’s favor.
After dropping a pair of games by two points last week, the Wildcats bounced back with a four-point win over Frontier last Saturday. Thursday, WHS claimed a 49-46 win over Trimble at the Harry Cooper Annex on a night where Waterford honored senior wrestlers Colten Jones and Si Ware.
Reese Lang and Gavin Hiener, who each knocked down four 3-pointers, scored 14 points apiece to power the Wildcats. Cole Sparling-Ponchak added 10 points while Finn Pennock netted for Waterford, which improved to 5-7 overall and takes on Parkersburg Catholic at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at home.
Knotted up at 24-all at halftime, the Wildcats created some separation in the third quarter and took a 37-31 advantage into the final eight minutes, holding on from there.
Brady Jajczyk scored a game-high 25 points for the Tomcats (2-11) while Luke Orsborne tallied nine.
