Roundup: Tigers roll past Trojans, 91-42

Owen Riley and Logan Grosklos both scored career-high point totals to help lead Marietta past Newcomerstown 91-42 Friday at Sutton Gym.

Riley finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds while Grosklos added 22 points and three assists. The Tigers, who improved to 10-2 and play host to John Glenn Saturday, shot 48.7% (36 for 76) from the floor.

Brayden Jones also reached double figures with 13 points and just missed a double-double with nine assists. Jones also tallied a team-high five steals. Zaiden Wittekind produced six points, a team-high eight rebounds, five dimes and three steals while Seth Britton finished with seven points and four assists. Freshman Robert Burke scored eight points off the bench in his first varsity action of the year.

Gavin Smith paced Newcomerstown (3-11) with 22 points while Javyn Lafferty added nine.

Marietta led 32-10 after a quarter. It was 52-34 at halftime before the Tigers scored the first 14 points of the half and outscored the Trojans 27-2 in the third to go up 79-36 and trigger a running clock in the fourth.

Parkersburg South 50, Dover 47

DOVER, Ohio — Harry Silvis scored a game-high 17 points and hit two late free throws to break a 47-all tie and give Parkersburg South a 50-47 road victory over Dover Friday.

Navi Hewitt, who finished with 12 points, added a free throw to put the Patriots (6-4) up three, and Dover missed a 3-pointer in the final seconds as South secured the victory.

The Patriots, who visit Linsly Thursday, got 10 rebounds from Matthew Mullen plus seven points and three steals from Taj Joyce.

PSHS led 27-22 at halftime and held a 40-33 advantage going into the final eight minutes.

The Tornadoes were led by Robby Copple’s 15 points. Mason Grewell knocked down four 3-pointers for 12 points.

GIRLS

Caldwell 55, Shadyside 38

CALDWELL — Caldwell outscored visiting Shadyside 23-2 in the second quarter, erasing a 19-9 deficit after one, en route to winning 55-38 Friday.

Laynie Sidwell led the Redskins with 14 points. Lexi Franklin added 12 points and Colie Arick chipped in nine points and three steals.

Lyla Lowe finished with 13 rebounds, four assists and five steals while Breighlee Moracco contributed six points, seven dimes and eight steals.
