Meigs 46, Marietta 45

POMEROY — Reed Brinager’s reverse layup rimmed out, but Dustin Vance was there with the putback with two seconds left to give Meigs a 46-45 win over Marietta Friday night in a battle of undefeated teams.

Zaiden Wittekind, who led the Tigers (7-1) with 15 points and two steals, hit a 3-pointer in the final minutes to give MHS a 45-42 lead, but a basket by Brinager and a pair of missed free throws by the Tigers set up Vance’s game-winner.

Vance’s basket actually occurred after an inadvertent whistle was blown by an official on Brinager’s miss. The officials gathered to discuss the play and, to the dismay of the Tigers, ruled that the basket counted.

Marietta’s Brayden Jones shot a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it was off the mark.
