BEVERLY — Any thoughts of a let-down for the Warren Warriors after a huge win on Monday night over Marietta lasted about a four minutes in Wednesday night’s Twin State League contest between the Warriors and the Fort Frye Cadets on Dan Liedtke Court in Beverly.

The Warriors built a 14-point first quarter lead and only added to it from that point as they completely dominated the Cadets 65-14 to score their fourth consecutive win.

Warren held the Cadets scoreless in the second quarter as they added 18 points to take a commanding 38-6 lead into the intermission.

“It was great to come out with the energy we came out with and build a big lead,” said Warren head coach Blane Maddox. “Fort came in and they are injured and they are young and we battled defensively and were able to get after them a little bit and take advantage.”

After exploding for a career-high 34 points on Monday in the win over the Tigers, senior guard Julian Stadelman had an unusually quiet night for the Warriors as he scored just 11 points while dishing out five assists.

Stadelman made 4-of-12 shot attempts from the floor which gave some opportunities to other Warren players and they took full advantage.

Senior Connor Barry tossed in a team-high 13 points while Colin Anthony added 12.

Maddox is well aware of the attention that Stadelman will garner as the Warriors head into the post season a little ways down the road.”

“Julian (Stadelman) was a little off tonight and it was great to see everybody else step up,” said Maddox. “We are going to need them to step up to take some pressure off of him.”

The Warriors didn’t shoot the ball particularly well at all from behind the arc as they made just 7-of-24 shots but they made up for it with a defense that forced the injury decimated Cadets into 21 turnovers, 19 coming in the first half.

Fort Frye’s Coen Fouss picked up the first bucket of the second half to snap what was a 23-0 Warrior run but eight straight points by Barry sparked a 9-0 run to push the lead to nearly 40 points and put the running clock in full motion.

Stadelman finished his night by scoring a rare four-point play and Maddox emptied his bench for the balance of the game as did Fort Frye head coach Eric Henniger.

Senior Chase Lupardus finished the game with nine points while leading the Warriors in rebounds with six and steals with four.

In the first half alone, eight different Warriors picked up at least one assist.

“I thought we shared the ball well and that makes everybody happy,” said Maddox, whose team ended up with 15 dimes in the game led by Stadelman’s five. “We’ve got to keep working on that.”

The season has been a rough one for Henniger and his young Cadet team as they are now winless (0-5) in conference play with a 4-9 record overall with several players out with injuries.

The Warriors improved to 9-2 and are still on target to share the TSL title with Marietta as they improved to 3-1 on the season with games with Point Pleasant and Fort Frye left on the schedule.

The Warriors will face a tough test on this Saturday as they take on undefeated Minford in a neutral site contest.

“We’ve got to keep working and keep getting better because it’s going to get serious now and we are looking forward to the competition we are going to be facing,” said Maddox. “Minford has five or six solid players and they are ranked number one in their division so it’s going to be a battle and we are definitely going to need to bring our A game.”

Marietta 66, Point Pleasant 51

Junior Bass posted game-highs of 17 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double in Marietta’s 66-51 win over Point Pleasant Thursday at Sutton Gymnasium.

Playing in the final game of his high school career due to transfer rules, Bass also led all players with four assists to help the Tigers improve to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the Twin State League.

Marietta, which travels to Steubenville Tuesday, will visit Point Pleasant later this season to wrap up league play. If the Tigers win that game, they’ll clinch at least a share of the TSL title for the third straight season.

Bass had three teammates join him in double figures as Zaiden Wittekind scored 13 points, Trey Hawkins tallied 11 and Brayden Jones netted 10. Jones and Hawkins finished with three assists apiece with Jones tallying three steals and Hawkins blocking three shots. Owen Riley chipped in eight points for the Tigers, who bounced back from a 77-59 loss to Warren Monday.

Marietta went 26 for 57 (45.6%) from the floor and held Point Pleasant to 17 for 50 (34%).

The Big Blacks (4-5 overall, 2-2 TSL) hit 10 3-pointers in the contest with Talan Pearson and Grant Barton making three apiece. Barton led PPHS with 15 points while Pearson and Trent Handley scored nine each. Barton, Handley, Landyn Keefer and Carrsen Lambert all finished with three dimes. Lambert grabbed a team-high eight boards while Handley pulled down six.
