Roundup: Warren boys rout Athens, 76-33
VINCENT — If there’s one team that’s earned a week off, it’s the Warren Warriors.
The Blane Maddox-coached squad defeated Athens 76-33 Saturday at Warrior Coliseum to wrap a stretch of six games in nine games.
The Warriors (17-2) went 6-0 in that span, starting with a big win over previously undefeated Meigs on Jan. 24 and ending with Saturday’s rout of the Bulldogs (8-7).
Now, Warren gets a week off before playing host to Philo next Saturday.
Saturday’s result was never in doubt as the Warriors led 16-4 after one, 39-13 at halftime and 63-30 after three.
Four Warriors scored in double figures, led by Julian Stadelman’s 17. Chase Lupardus and Tyson Cochran added 12 each while Jacob Sealey chipped in 11. Warren knocked down 11 3-pointers as a team, with Stadelman hitting five and Sealey making three.
The Warriors stretched their win streak to 12 and won their seventh straight game by double digits.
Athens, which was limited to just three points over the final eight minutes, was led by Weston Wheatly’s 13 points. Leo Martin added 10 for the Bulldogs, who are right back in action Monday at Wellston.
Marietta 74, Morgan 49
McCONNELSVILLE — Cole McGill scored a game-high 22 points for Morgan Saturday, but visiting Marietta knocked down 11 3-pointers and pulled away in the second half for a 74-49 victory.
The Tigers (12-3) led 16-15 after one 31-25 at halftime, but outscored the Raiders (3-14) 25-10 in the third to go up 56-35 with eight minutes to play.
Zaiden Wittekind led Marietta, which visits Akron East Tuesday, with 17 points. Braiden Plaugher knocked down four 3-pointers for 12 points, Trey Hawkins and Lucas Miller netted 10 points apiece, Brayden Jones scored eight and Seth Britton tallied seven.
Morgan, which heads to Crooksville Tuesday, saw Tavian Myers join McGill in double figures with 10 points.
Waterford 44, St. Joseph 29
IRONTON — Reese Lang got hot from beyond the arc to lead Waterford to a 44-29 road victory over St. Joseph Saturday.
The Waterford sophomore knocked down six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 19 points to help the Wildcats improve to 7-8 on the year. Finn Pennock added 11 points for Waterford, which visits Southern Tuesday.
The game was tied at 8-all after one before the Wildcats outscored the Flyers 11-6 in the second to take a 19-14 advantage into halftime. The Wildcats built on their lead from there, going ahead 32-18 by the end of the third.
St. Joseph (9-6) had nobody reach double figures in the scoring column.
GIRLS
Minford 47, Warren 30
MINFORD — The Warren girls were limited to three points in the second quarter as host Minford jumped out to a 28-14 halftime lead and went on to win 47-30 Saturday.
The Warriors, who dropped to 9-8 and visit Martins Ferry Monday, trailed just 15-11 after one but went into an offensive slump in the second period.
Mackenzie James-McGuire paced Warren with 10 points. Rylee Arnold made a pair of 3-pointers and added eight points.
The Falcons (13-4) got 10 points from Lindsee Williams, nine apiece from Maggie Risner and Kerigan Davis plus eight from Lexi Conkel.

BOYS
Warren 57, Bloom-Carroll 36
CARROLL, Ohio — Warren won its 11th game in a row and scored its sixth consecutive double-digit victory with Friday’s 57-36 triumph over Bloom-Carroll.
The Warriors improved to 16-2 and will play host to Athens Saturday.
Julian Stadelman paced the Warriors with a game-high 18 points. Colin Anthony also reached double figures with 10 points followed by Jacob Sealey’s nine and Nick Cressey’s eight.
WHS led 15-7 after one, 29-16 at halftime and 43-29 going into the fourth.
Bloom-Carroll was led by Park Truex’s 15 points. Rob Williams added 10 and Caleb Frashure chipped in eight.
Frontier 52, River 42
HANNIBAL — For the second time this week, Frontier took care of business against River.
Two days after besting the Pilots 43-29 at Hank Morus Gym, the Cougars (9-5) traveled to RHS Friday and left with a 52-42 victory.
Avery Powell scored a game-high 17 points for the Cougars, who play host to Caldwell Tuesday. Jacob Bowersock added 13 points and Austyn Kephart netted 11.
The Pilots (7-9) were led by Payton Blue’s 10 points.
