Etta Express wins 1, loses 1 in Georgia

ROME, Ga. — The Marietta College baseball team split a pair of games Saturday. The Pioneers defeated LaGrange College, 5-3, and lost to Berry College, 10-2, in games played at Berry College. Marietta moves to 4-3 on the season. LaGrange is 8-7 and Berry is 9-7 overall.

Austin Ziance (2-1) had another strong outing and got the win against LaGrange. Ziance started and threw 6.0 innings scattering six hits and giving up three runs. He walked two and struck out six.

Forrest Havanis allowed one hit and no runs in 1.0 inning of work. Brennan Stobbs notched his first save with 2.0 innings of hitless relief. He struck out one.

Marietta broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the sixth inning and then added an insurance run in the eighth. Cam Russell and Shane Rothlisberger each drove in a run with a single in the two-run sixth. Nick Bonnizzio played the run in the eighth with a sac fly.

The Pioneers grabbed an early lead with two runs in the third. Thomson Babineau walked and stole second. Diego DeCello walked, and Will Loftus followed with a single to right, scoring Babineau and moving DeCello to third. A throwing error by the LaGrange catcher allowed DeCello to score.

LaGrange scored a run in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game, 2-2.

Loftus finished 3-for-5, while Russell and Cael Magill had two hits each.

In the second game, Berry banged out 16 hits and scored runs in all but two innings for the 10-2 victory.

Jacob Rocky (2-1) started and took the loss. He worked 2.1 innings and allowed three runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Four other Pioneers toed the rubber against the Vikings.

Marietta got on the board in the second inning when Russell drew a bases loaded walk. The Pioneers added a run in the sixth. Babineau reached on a two-out walk and moved to second on a hit from Bryce Bogan. Bonnizzio singled to left, scoring Babineau.

Magill was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game.
