Fort Frye takes Game 1 from Marietta

BEVERLY – Both Marietta and Fort Frye collected just three hits in the opener of a scheduled doubleheader Monday afternoon in Beverly.

The Cadets made the most of their hits while the Tigers didn’t as Fort Frye rolled to a 12-0, five-inning win in a Twin States League battle.

Fort Frye took advantage of some wild Tiger pitching to score seven times in the third inning and never looked back. The Cadets improved their season mark to 5-3 while remaining unbeaten in league play (2-0).

Cadet starting pitcher Grady Hesson allowed just three hits and fanned four in four and a third innings of work to pick up the win.

Freshman Wade Duskey came on in relief in the fifth to close out the game for the Cadets.

Wyatt Duskey, Jack McCurdy and Clayton Miller each collected a single and drove in a pair of runs for the winners.

Freshman Caden Henniger walked three times and scored three runs while Chatum Courson and Braylen Meek both scored twice.

Marietta starting pitcher Jeremiah Loughry took the loss as the Tigers slipped to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Cooper Laumann, Torin Baker and Bryson Chidester accounted for Marietta’s three base hits.

The two teams attempted to play the second game and managed to get into the bottom of the fifth inning with a scoreless tie before the game was suspended due to rain and will be made up at a later date.

Both teams are scheduled to be back in action Tuesday with the Cadets traveling to Parkersburg South while the Tigers host Alexander.

Starting at $2.99/week.
