Pioneer softball splits with Quakers

WILMINGTON — Marietta College split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wilmington Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers won game one, 5-4, and the Quakers took the second game, 3-0. Marietta is 14-6 overall and 2-4 in the OAC. Wilmington is 9-12 on the season and 2-6 in the OAC.

Camryn Kiefer hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth to give the Pioneers the 5-4 lead. The freshman also threw 3.0 shutout innings of relief to get the win in the circle. Kiefer allowed one hit and struck out one.

Amelia Timko started in the circle for the Pioneers and worked 3.0 innings. She gave up three runs on nine hits. Candace Walters allowed one run on one hit in 1.0 inning of relief before turning the ball over to Kiefer.

Prior to Kiefer’s home run, the two teams matched each other’s run scoring. Marietta scored one in the second, two in the third, and one in the fourth. Wilmington did the exact same in the home half of each frame.

Makenzie O’Neil started in the circle for the Quakers and gave up three runs on six hits in 3.0 innings. Gracey Dearmon (1-4) took the loss allowing two runs on three hits with three walks and one strikeout in 3.0 innings. Audrey Patel retired all three hitters she faced in the seventh inning,

Liz White and Taylor Airy each had two hits in the game, including a double, for Marietta. Emilie Johnson tripled, and Kiefer had the game winning home run.

In the second game, The Quakers scored twice in the third and once in the fourth for the 3-0 victory.

Belle Baughman (5-3) scattered three hits and gave up no runs in 6.0 innings for the win. She walked seven and struck out four. Audrey Patel got the save, retiring the three batters she faced in the seventh.

Kiefer (8-4) started and took the loss. She gave up three runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings. Emma Cozza worked 2.0 innings and gave up no runs on two hits. Johnson threw the last inning.
