Thirteen meet records fall at Belpre’s Bob Holdren Invite
BELPRE — Federal Hocking’s Annamarie Montle nearly established three meet records here Friday night at the weather-delayed Belpre Jerry’s Auto Bob Holdren Invitational as the Lancer girls topped the field with 116 points to finish ahead of New Lexington (89.5), Marietta (85.5), Alexander (74.5), Eastern (52) as well as the host and sixth-place Golden Eagles (48).
New Lex’s Jocelynn Bowen was one of three double-winners for the girls after taking the 100 (15.94) and 300 (49.49) hurdles as Montle’s 49.50 wasn’t quite enough despite etching her name in the books with meet records in the pole vault (12-0) and the 100 where she edged Frontier’s Tysie Hoff (12.86-13.22).
Eastern’s Isabella Wilcoxen collected 20 points thanks to wins in the shot put (33-1) and discus (110-4) where she topped Eagle teammates Nicole Nottingham (31-2) and Brooklyn Barkey (99-4). Waterford’s Ella Schweikert placed third in the shot put (28-5) and fourth in the discus (85-1).
The Marietta girls went back home with meet records thanks to Hailey Powell’s 12:14.82 in the 3200, which topped Golden Eagle Shy Miller’s 12:25.65, and Kileah Lieras-Kelley’s mark of 5 feet, 2 inches in the high jump. Panther Ava Snedeker was runner-up (5-0). Lancer Juni Ballew took third (4-10) while Morgan’s Josie Patterson and Tiger Valentine Marasco shared fourth (4-8).
Federal Hocking was aided in victory by 200 champ Jaylee Orsborne (27.30) and the victorious 4×2 (1:54.78).
Belpre closed out the meet by winning the 4×4 with Julia Way, Gracie Bills, Samarra Wolfe and Miller, whose time of 4:32.57 nipped Marietta’s 4:33.32 by Joselin Jones, Kenadee Strauss, Kipplyn McNeal and Meredith Schaad.
The Golden Eagles’ same quartet not only won the 4×8 with a time of 10:50.72, but also set a new record.
New Lexington clocked in a second ahead of Federal Hocking’s 53.11 to win the 4×1, which not only was a new mark but an all-time Ralph Holder Stadium record as well.
The other individual wins were captured by Monroe Central’s Bayleigh Burdette in the long jump (14-11 to Alexander Lily Ryder’s 14-10), Trimble’s Abby Weber in the 1600 (6:06.17) along with Raider Ava Davis in the 400 (1:03.36) and Spartan Meena Juedes in the 800 (2:29.71). Lancer Ellie Needs (400, 1:03.95) and Eagle Lilly Simpson (800, 2:32.08) were second.
Thanks to a dominating 141-70 triumph against runner-up Marietta, the Morgan boys helped the Raiders bring back the combined team crown to McConnelsville.
Braylon Miller established one of the four new RHS all-time venue marks when he set the meet record in the 400 by beating Marietta’s Reid Sloter 50.60 to 51.45.
Miller also won the 200 and broke the meet record by finishing in 22.69 to top Griffin Hudson of Meigs’ 23.47. Hudson won the 100 with a time of 11.17 and set one of the baker’s dozen meet records.
The Golden Eagles received golds from Drew Rickman in the high jump after he cleared 5 feet, 10 inches before runners-up Dillon Haynes of FHHS and Jaxon Pauley of Morgan did as well as in the shot put thanks to Nathan Tippie. The Golden Eagle topped Raider William Dodd (42-9.5 to 42-2.5). Dodd was runner-up to Eastern’s Mason Sheppard (136-3 to 131-0) in the discus while Belpre’s other top effort came in the 800 where Aedan Mullins finished runner-up to Eagle Tyler Hill (2:02.57-2:06.54).
Although Marietta’s Emett Parman had to settle for second in the 1600 behind Morgan’s Clark Smith (4:52.32-5:05.02), the Tigers had top of the podium efforts by Ian Putnam in the 3200 (10:59.94) and Carson Chavez in the 110 high hurdles (15.29).
Alexander, which finished with 66 points to narrowly take third ahead of Meigs’ and Belpre’s 65.25, got a pair of wins from Jake Roush in the pole vault (11-0) and 300 hurdles (42.37). Roush was runner-up to Chavez in the highs after crossing in 16.32. Chavez was third in the 300s behind Morgan runner-up Hayden Bankes (42.59-42.69).
The other two meet and all-time RHS records went to Meigs in the 4×1 (45.30) and 4×2 (1:34.26).
Belpre’s 4×4 almost closed the meet with an exciting victory thanks to Brayden McDaniel, Dalton Lemon, Jase Kapple and Mullins, but came up short to Morgan (3:43.35-3:44.96).
The Golden Eagles’ effort of 9:02.39 in the 4×8 was more than 14 ticks faster than the Raiders thanks to McDaniel, Johnny Miller, Kapple and the anchor Mullins.
In the long jump, Rosecrans Tizian Schmelzer had an effort of 19-10.5, but came up short as Monroe Central’s Evan Knowlton placed first with a winning mark of 20 feet, 3 inches.
