Shenandoah’s Braxton Barnett goes double-gold at state

COLUMBUS — Shenandoah junior Braxton Barnett became the first Zep in program history to claim a state track title.

And he did it twice.

Barnett began his Saturday by winning 110 hurdles with a PR time of 14.17 seconds. He bested runner-up Judah Cremeens of South Gallia, who crossed in 14.60.

Later, Barnett clocked in at 37.32 in the 300 hurdles, just edging out Chesapeake’s Cameron Burgess to claim his second state title of the day. He’s now an eight-time All-Ohioan with a year still to go.

His teammate, Alyssa Crum, also found her way on the podium with a seventh-place finish in the 800. She put up a time of 2:17.83.

Fellow Zep Ida Estadt competed in the 3200, finishing 15th with a time of 11:39.71.

Elsewhere in Division III, Federal Hocking’s Annamarie Montle picked up another All-Ohio medal. The pole vault champion competed in the 100 hurdles finals on Saturday, placing seventh after finishing in 15.37.

Speaking of elite pole vaulters, Warren’s Amanda Rauch competed at the D2 level Saturday. A seventh-place finisher at 11 feet, 4 inches last year, Rauch saw marked improvement this time around. The senior Warrior cleared 12 feet to place fourth.

Another D2 athlete, Morgan’s Braylon Miller, competed in the 400. He barely missed out on all-state status, finishing in ninth with a time of 49.69.
