Warren falls in OVAC semi

WHEELING, W.Va. – In an OVAC 5A semifinal, No. 3 seeded Wheeling Park ousted Warren, 2-0, behind a sensational performance from starting pitcher Mackenzie Amend.

The talented junior bottled up the Warrior bats all evening long. She allowed just two hits while striking out eight and walking two.

The Patriots gave her the lead before she entered the circle, scoring the game’s only two runs in the top of the first frame.

With one out, dynamo Kelsey Chacolas singled but was erased on a fielder’s choice by standout catcher Kat Donzella. Amend followed with a single. An error placed runners on second and third, setting the table for a two-run single by Hannah Archer.

The Warriors made the Patriot partisans squirm in the home-half of the seventh. Taylor Coss reached an error before Kylee Lynch walked. Amend exhibited her grittiness by retiring the next there batters on easy popups.

Chacalos and Laurel Saunders each had two hits to pace Park’s seven-hit attack. Donzella smacked a two-bagger.

Sarah Greenlee pitched well in defeat for Jenny Lynch’s Warriors.

She fanned two and walked one. She delivered a single while Diamond Decker’s double was the only other Warrior hit.

Park improved to 14-11 on the season while Warren dropped to 14-5.
