Local golfers perform well in sectional competition

The Waterford High girls golf team displayed dominance in a Division II sectional golf match earlier this week at Hocking Hills Golf Club.
The Lady Wildcats put together a team score of 366, defeating second place Circleville (446) by a whopping 90 strokes.
Led by McKenzie Dietz, who claimed medalist honors with a score of 85, Waterford advanced to district action where it will hope to clinch a second consecutive berth to the state tournament.
Dietz shot a 43 on the front nine and a 42 on the back.
Teammates Ashley Offenberger and Abigail Eichmiller each carded a 92 to contribute to the Waterford cause, while Brianna Hart scored a 97 and Liz Leach posted a 102.
In the same match, the Warren High girls team placed third, scoring 448 to finish two strokes behind runner-up Circleville.
Warren was led by Megan Jacobsen, whose score of 89 was second best at the tournament, behind only Dietz.
Warren’s other contributors were Zoe Miller (126), Hannah Jankauskas (111) and McKenzie Cameron (122).
Belpre also had two individuals competing with Madalynn Roby carding a 104 and Britteny Shaffer scoring 102.
The district tournament will take place Tuesday at Upper Landowne Golf Course
In boys action, Fort Frye competed Tuesday at Willandale Golf Club and came in 10th with a score of 417.
However, Kyle Massey carded a 92 (44 on the front and 48 on the back) to qualify individually for district.
It is the second year in a row a Cadet has made it district, as Ben Wagner advanced out of sectionals last season.
Tuesday, Wagner carded a 105. Other Fort Frye contributors were Derek Joy (121), Zach Nesselroad (104) and Evan Moler (116).
Massey will compete again at Willandale in district action at 9 a.m. Oct. 4.
