BELPRE — Three first-quarter touchdowns paved the way for Trimble to down host Belpre 44-7 Friday night to drop the Golden Eagles to 0-2 already on the season.

It took the now 1-1 Tomcats just 50 seconds to light up the scoreboard.

On the second play from scrimmage, Cameron Roback intercepted a Belpre pass and ran it back 16 yards to paydirt for a TD at 11:10.

Then less than two minutes later came Trimble TD No. 2 as Belpre QB Brandon Simoniette was sacked and fumbled the ball that was recovered by Trimble at the 9:18 mark at the Golden Eagle 11.

Sawyer Koons bulled his way a yard into the end zone 1:05 later at 8:13 to built an early 13-0 gap.

And the early woes didn’t let up for Belpre as with 2:43 to go in the first quarter yet, Max Hooper took a pitch to the left to tally from three yards out for a 19-0 lead for the Tomcats.

The visitors tacked on an 11-yard scoring scamper by Hooper at 11:13 of the second period to up their advantage at 25-0.

But Belpre finally got going offensively with a 73-yard drive to score. A 37-yard pass to Jesse Collins preceded him catching another Simoniette aerial. good for 19 yards to the Trimble 1, from where Reams scored at 8:34 of the second and Bailey Sprague’s PAT made it a 25-7 game at the half.

In the third quarter, Logan Adams of Belpre stymied another Trimble scoring threat at 8:25, picking off a pass at the goal line after the Tomcats had reached the Golden Eagle 15.

But with 19.9 seconds left in the third, Hooper racked up his third TD of the night on a 20-yard TD dash for a 31-7 Trimble lead.

An interception, one of three on the night for Trimble, then put the Tomcats in scoring position at the Belpre 23 at 6:09 of the final period and Conner Wright rushed 17 yards for a TD with 5:18 to go in the game.

And Todd Fouts’ six-yard TD dart as time expired in the contest made the final 44-7 on the scoreboard.

Trimble rolled up 303 yards on the ground, led by Wright’s 122 stripes and 110 from Hooper. Meanwhile, Belpre had 124 total yards and only five first downs.
