Local volleyball players honored

Several area high school volleyball players were recognized in District 13 this week.

Local District 13 schools include Marietta, Warren, Waterford and Belpre.

In Division I, Marietta junior Natalie Brooks was voted Defensive Player of the Year while Ron Kidder was selected as the Coach of the Year.

Fellow Tigers Morgan Connolly and Hannah Kroft were first teamers, Carlie Hamilton was a second teamer and lone senior Madison Whittle was honorable mention.

In D-II, Warren senior Hope Murdock made earned first team status. Fellow seniors Kate Liston and Maggie Kemp made the second team while Kaylee Ullman and Abby Gilliand were honorable mention.

Senior Showcase participants from Divisions I and II will include Murdock, Liston, Kemp and Whittle.

In Division IV, regional qualifier Waterford was well represented. Seniors Megan Ball and Hannah Duff swept the Player of the Year awards, with Ball getting offensive and Duff getting defensive.

Also recognized for the Wildcats was first teamer Jordan Taylor, second teamer Alli Kern and honorable mention picks Morgan Lang and Allex Teters.

First-year Waterford head coach Kim Barker received a Coaches Achievement Award.

Ball, Duff, Taylor and Kern were picked as Senior Showcase participants in D-IV.

From Belpre, Sydney Spencer made second team while Katie Osburn was honorable mention.
