VINCENT — The Warren Lady Warriors are in the middle of putting together a very special season.

Wednesday night Warren celebrated there senior night as they welcomed the arch-rival Marietta Lady Tigers and right on cue the Warrior ladies delivered a special performance en route to a 73-43 win.

Warren came out of the gate blazing as it scored the first 15 points of the contest and never looked back as it rolled to win No. 14 on the season against just two losses.

Warren seniors Emily Jackson, Kate Liston and Molly McCutcheon combined for 58 points as Warren completed the season sweep over the Tigers in grand fashion.

“You kind of worry about how emotions are going to play into senior night but I can’t imagine getting off to any better start than we did tonight,” said Warren head coach Amy Colgrove. “Our defense set the tone for the entire game.”

The Warrior defense forced Marietta into turnovers on seven of their first eight possessions and kept them off the scoreboard until Morgan Altenburger’s free throw with less than three minutes to play in the opening quarter.

Warren led 21-4 after one period play and increased that lead to 26 (40-14) at the intermission.

After turning the basketball over 18 times in the opening half, MHS looked like a completely different team in the third quarter as it out-pointed Warren 21-13.

“We have just got to quit spotting teams 20 points before we start to play the way we know we can,” said first-year Tiger head coach Allen Ruth. “I was really happy with our effort, we just have to figure out a way to not let turnovers kill us like they have all year.”

The Tigers managed to cut the lead to as few as 18 at one time but the Lady Warriors regrouped for the final period and pulled away to the 30-point win.

Liston and Jackson scored 20 points apiece for Warren while McCutcheon added 18.

Warren connected on 7-of-16 3-point attempts including four by the sharp-shooting Jackson.

Peyton Bowe, Grace Way and Brianna Carpenter make up the balance of the phenomenal Warren senior class which scored all but two of the Warriors points on the night.

“This is a very special group and not only because they are extremely talented at basketball,” said Colgrove. “They come to work everyday and work hard to get better. They care about one another and have played together for a long time. They are just tremendous role models for our youth and great kids as well.”

Leading the way for the Tigers was Altenburger and Natalie Brooks with eight points apiece while freshman Jessica Smith came off the bench to score six.

“Hat’s off to Warren. … That is a really, really good class and a great team,” said Ruth, whose Tigers slipped to 3-14 on the season. “They are going to do really well in the postseason. I was proud of our girls because they never quit.”

Marietta will return home Saturday afternoon to host Zanesville while Warren visit Linsly on Monday.
