Waterford’s Lang qualifies for indoor state track meet
WATERFORD — Waterford High senior Amy Lang has qualified for the indoor state track meet, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday in Geneva.
Lang qualified in the high jump with a top height of 5-feet. Lang will be competing with 23 other high jumpers at the Spire Complex. The top eight performers will medal.
Lang will make the near three-hour trek from Waterford to Geneva on Friday afternoon to “get some practice in before she jumps on Saturday,” Waterford track coach Rob Sury said.
Lang, who is planning to attend Ohio University after high school and hopes to compete in track for the Bobcats, has had limited practice time this winter due to weather, but overcame the odds and made it to state.
“She is jumping with a lot of confidence and determination this year in hopes to make it to state in outdoor,” Sury said.
Lang previously qualified for the indoor state track meet as a sophomore and placed fourth with a jump of 5-3. She’s also competed in the outdoor state track meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus during her prep career.
