BEVERLY — As a catcher, Logan “Hulk” Isner is considered one of the premier backstops in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

The Fort Frye senior standout is solid defensively, can throw, communicates well with pitchers — and is durable. During his varsity career as a Cadet, he’s started 83 games and appeared in 536 innings behind the dish.

Offensively, the 6-foot, 184-pound Isner owns a career batting average of .340 with five home runs and 64 runs-batted-in.

“Logan has had a great four years at Fort Frye and he has been a rock behind the plate for us,” said Fort Frye skipper Sonny Bidwell. “He possesses a great arm and has an outstanding bat and game presence.

“He is very strong and works hard at his skill set. He takes his game seriously off the field by studing the position and eats healthy and has natural leadership skills.”

The 18-year-old Isner said he’s also dreamt of playing baseball at the collegiate level after high school graduation, and last Friday (May 4) in Cadet Gymnasium, he signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education and compete at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, W.Va.

“It’s close to home and a very fun environment to be around,” Isner said. “I love Coach (Chad) Porter. He’s really nice. It just felt like it would be the best fit for me.”

Ohio Valley U is an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Currently (as of May 6), the Fighting Scots are 19-28 overall and 8-17 in the G-MAC.

Isner is planning to major in accounting at OVU. At Fort Frye, he has a 3.65 GPA (grade point average).

Currently, Isner is batting over .400 with one home run (at Caldwell April 12) and 22 RBIs for the Cadets, who are 15-4 overall after rallying to beat West Muskingum, 8-5, in an Ohio Division III sectional tournament opener at FFHS. Fort was scheduled to host Ridgewood in a sectional final at 5 p.m. Tuesday (May 8).

Against West M, Isner had a double and drove in the go-ahead run with a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth inning.

An all-around athlete at Fort Frye, Isner was a 2017 DVI All-Ohio Honorable Mention lineman for the Eric Huck-coached Cadet football team, which finished 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Pioneer Valley Conference.

During summers, Isner played American Legion baseball for Todd Engle-coached Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750. Last season, Bev/Low (27-16) won the Region 8 championship and was runner-up at state in Lancaster to earn a berth in the Great Lakes Regional at Mercy Field in Napoleon, Ohio.

“We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Bidwell said. “He will be a success in all that he will do.”
