65th: Thomas and Shirley Wilson

On April 20, Thomas James “T.J.” and Shirley (Gaughan) Wilson of Marietta celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Rev. Earl Debar officiated their marriage ceremony on April 20, 1954, in Boomer, WV. After they were married, they lived in West Virginia for a short time. The majority of their adult life they have resided in Pinehurst (Marietta). Their journey as a married couple is a true testament of love and perseverance. T.J., who enjoys writing poetry, wrote and shared this poem for a previous anniversary:

Well, we have enjoyed our journey through the years,

Sure had many laughs and a few tears.

However together we enjoyed it all with family and friends along the way,

So, we thank you all for being a part of the journey each and every day.

May God be with you on your journey each step of the way!

T.J. is the son of the late George James Wilson and Myrtle Lucille (Johnson) McIntire. He is a graduate of Marietta High School and attended Marietta College. He has been an active leader and participant in several community organizations including the local Steelworkers Union, Shriners and served as a member of the Warren Local School Board. He is retired from Amoco Performances, Inc.

Shirley is the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Kelly) Gaughan, Sr. She is a graduate of Vincent High School. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Alderson-Broaddus College. She retired from Marietta Memorial Hospital.

They have three children: Cheyenne Duncan and her husband, Greg, of Elizabeth City, N.C.; Pamela Huck and her husband, Fred, and Patrick Wilson, all of Marietta. They have four grandchildren: Jennifer Meek Toelle and her husband, David of Salina, KS; Derek Burton of Virginia Beach, VA; Stephanie Flanagan and Zach Bowes, both of Marietta. They also have several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
