If you had told me years ago that it is better to give than to receive I would not agree with you.
When you are a child you want all the toys in the stores and remember taking my children into stores and how they wanted so many different things they saw.
They would always find things they wanted "right then" and many times I had to say no to them just to teach them that we can't always buy something when we go into a store. Kids are clever however and they would run to their grandparents and of course they would purchase what they were wanting.
I am sure you all remember the Sears Catalog and the special toy addition they would send out at Christmas time. We used to get a catalog for each of our three children and let them circle the times they would like Santa to bring.
Our two girls, Niki and Sophia, would circle many items but our son George circled almost everything in the catalog. (I still have the catalog today I think?)
We have always stressed for our children to share their toys with others from a young age which has carried on now that they are adults.
This is especially a time where everyone should keep in mind the less fortunate and be sure to make it a point to see that even the less fortunate children have a special Christmas.
At our Auntie Anne's store at the Mall we always have the Salvation Army place a big tree with children's Christmas lists. This year I was very excited to see that people had taken all the lists which shows that many children will have their wishes fulfilled thanks to so many thoughtful and generous citizens in our community (these trees are located in numerous places throughout the city).
A lesson for life for everyone. "Better to Give than to Receive" and make this a family tradition.
May your blessings be extra special this Christmas season and may you share them with others.
Merry Christmas.
Till next month.
