The importance of giving
The word Thanksgiving is telling us the true meaning of giving and as we draw closer to Thanksgiving it becomes more evident.
There is nothing more important or self satisfying than that giving and sharing with the less fortunate.
Giving is something we must emphasize to our children and how life is not only how much we can accumulate for ourselves but how we can aid and help people in need. All holidays including Thanksgiving have a true meaning behind them and it is important that we teach our children the true meaning of each holiday they will never know. You all have heard the expression “monkey see – monkey do” and as parents we need to set examples for our children to follow…. If our children see us donating, giving and sharing such as to the less fortunate, schools, church and community they will continue to do the same as they grow older. Giving also gives a person self satisfaction and is rewarding by helping and sharing with others in need.
Especially the elementary school teachers have a mega job and task day in and day out to set examples and teach our little ones so they will grow up to be generous and responsible citizens.
Raising a child will be a reflection on you later in life and help in the development of your child that you can be very proud of. Life has many challenges but it is up to us to help our children overcome the various happenings.
With the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons coming up it is a perfect time and opportunity to inspire your child to acquire toys, books and food to give to other children…. Yes!! there is a mega need for food and other necessary items in our community at this time…. Be sure to take your child with you when you drop off the gifts that you are giving to help establish this feature of giving in them. Keep in mind that because we may have everything and need little,. Others are not in the same predicament as we are.
“GIVE GIVE & SHARE” are the key words for the seasons and we all must learn to apply and carry them out.
This year it seems especially like the celebration of the coming holidays and started especially early… What is a child suppose to look at first with all the different things for the different holidays coming up…– Halloween, Thanksgiving – Christmas and New Year’s all combined together which makes it very stressful for the workers and shoppers.
I experienced a mother with her little girl shopping for toys for the day of giving to others but the little girl was more interested in wanting to buy a toy for herself. I was very impressed because the mother emphasized that the toys we are buying today are for other children and she would have to wait for Santa to bring her toys…. To me this mother was setting a positive example for her little daughter.
Giving from the heart is the important thing and not what the value of the item you are giving. Please emphasize the importance to your child the importance of giving.!!
