Teaching children to laugh in life

Laughter is one of the most successful defenses that mankind has found to cope with the problems of daily living. All of us must teach our children to laugh. In turn, they will mature into adults prepared to teach others the significance of laughter. Thus, I want to address my thoughts on the importance of humor in the home, at school, during athletic competition, and on the job. Carefully consider the following: Humor in the Home An essential element to the success of any family unit is that intangible state of mind known as “happiness.” If the mother, father, and/or ...

The meaning of Easter

As we are getting closer to one of the biggest religious holidays (Easter) we need to take the time to talk to our children about the real meaning of Easter and what took place and why we celebrate Easter. Children look forward to the Easter holiday and all the Easter Bunny chocolate eggs and baskets that the Easter Bunny delivers on that special Sunday. I personally believe that the Easter season is the most important holiday and event for the year where we celebrate the death and resurrection of our lord and savior Jesus. Oilfield brine, unfortunately, is not just salt and ...

The history of our area is punctuated by floods that have ravished the area from time to time. The worst of them being the flood of 1913 that struck the area 112 years ago this month when the area was hit with eight inches of rain. Marietta, at the confluence of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers ...

“Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”

Last week’s Presidential Address to Congress was a disappointment. Shame on President Trump, who acted anything but “presidential.” With the opening lines of his speech, Trump began to taunt the Democrats. He opined that President Biden was “the worst President in American history,” a thought that didn’t need to be shared. Trump later paused to remark that no matter what he said, no Democrat would ever applaud his words. In a speech that could have pointed America toward unity in solving our common problems, the President picked a fight. Shame on the Democrats who joined ...
