PARKERSBURG — James Scott Walraven, 41, of 4134 School House Road, Little Hocking, died Wednesday after his vehicle struck another vehicle head-on in the 11000 block of Emerson Avenue, just south of Valley Mills Road, said the Wood County Sheriff’s Department.

Walraven, driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant northbound, crossed the concrete median of the four-lane highway and collided with a southbound 2017 Hyundai Genesis driven by Robert W. Christie, 63, of No. 15 Pinewood Lane, Parkersburg, that was traveling in the passing lane, said Wood County Sheriff Steve Stephens. The crash was reported at 1:42 p.m. Wednesday.

A medical emergency involving Walraven may have been a contributing factor to the accident, Stephens said.

Christie was conscious and responsive at the scene, Stephens said. Christie was treated at Camden Clark Medical Center and then transferred to WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

No passengers were in either vehicle.

The Wood County Crash Team is investigating the head-on crash.
