Businesses prep for Super Bowl Sunday

Although there aren’t any regional teams playing in Super Bowl LIV, that’s not expected to slow business down much for Marietta eateries.
The Super Bowl’s kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sunday and will be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Fla., home of the Miami Dolphins.
According to CBS Sports, this is the first time the Kansas City Chiefs are returning to the Super Bowl in 50 years, while this will be the seventh visit to the Super Bowl for the San Francisco 49ers.
Terry Flores, who works at Smitty’s Pizza on Front Street, said their shop is busy regardless of who plays.
“But it does increase some if someone like Pittsburgh is playing,” she added.
The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. Flores said everything from pizza to subs to wings is popular for those watching the big game.
“Our most popular is our two large pizza special,” Flores added.
Having their grand opening last fall, Donato’s Pizza employees will experience their first of what is said to be one of the biggest pizza days of the year.
“Everything we’ve learned from corporate, they said be prepared,” Hollister said. “It’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest pizza days. We’re making sure we’re staffed well and kept stocked up.”
He said the response his shop has gotten from local residents is overwhelming, and they expect the same on Sunday. They will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“We’re excited to see a busy day come our way. We’re going to be as prepared as we can be,” Hollister added.
Pizza isn’t the only thing consumed before and during the game.
On Sunday, Americans will consume 28 million pounds of chips, 325.5 million gallons of beer and 1.38 billion chicken wings, reports Inside Hook.
Jessica Sobieski, customer service rep for Marietta’s Beer Barn, said people start stocking up on beer Saturday, so it will be good and cold for the game.
“We’re really busy up until the game starts,” she said. “It doesn’t matter who is playing. It is pretty much like this for every Super Bowl.”
