PARKERSBURG — Police are searching for a man who robbed Community Bank in downtown Parkersburg Thursday after handing a teller a threatening note.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at 631 Juliana St.
“An unidentified white male entered the bank lobby … provided a note, a very long note, to the teller,” Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said. “He got out of here with a little bit of money.”
Martin declined to release specific details about the note but said it threatened violence and gave specific instructions. The teller gave him the money and he left. No one was injured in the incident.
“The teller did exactly what she was supposed to do,” Martin said.

The suspect was described as a white male about 6 feet tall and dressed in black, police said. He entered through the Juliana Street entrance and fled on foot, with an undisclosed amount of money, across Juliana Street.
“It went down very quietly from what we can tell so far,” Police Lt. Greg Collins said at the scene. “It wasn’t a boisterous robbery. There were witnesses right beside him that really had no clue that this was taking place.”
Police canvassed the area around the bank, looking for people matching the suspect’s description, as well as video surveillance that might give them a better look at the individual. By Thursday afternoon, they had located an image that shows a man in a black hoodie with facial hair and some sort of mark on his right cheek.
“The department is asking anyone who may have observed any unusual or suspicious behavior from anyone matching this description around or near the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department and/or the Transit Authority on Sixth Street prior to 9:30 to please contact the Parkersburg Police at 304-424-8444 or submit an anonymous tip at www.parkersburgpolice.com,” a release from the department says.
