The 2021 fair schedule was recently announced by the Ohio Department of Agriculture, although it is unknown what the fairs will look like next year.

Katie Boyer, Department of Agriculture public information officer, said it is unknown as to what restrictions will be put on the 2021 fairs.

"There have been no new orders issued, but the current order still stands, as it's indefinite," she explained. "There's been no mention as to when this current order expires."

As part of Gov. Mike DeWine's Responsible RestartOhio, for fairs beginning on or after July 31, 2020, participation is limited to those who are part of 4-H, FFA, or other youth organizations. Permitted are junior livestock shows, as defined in Ohio Administrative Code, and youth exhibits that promote agricultural and household manufacturing interests.

Bruce Zimmer, 4-H youth development director with the Ohio State University Extension, said as far as he knows, the fair schedule is the same as last year.

He said they will be working on the 4-H programming, junior fair and schedule for 2021. Some events are still scheduled to be held virtually.

"Quality assurance training for members taking livestock is still going to be virtual," he noted.

Zimmer mentioned Senate Bill 375, which was passed two weeks ago, which notes the Director of Health's order "Limiting County Fairs to Junior Fair Activities and Animal Exhibitions, with Exceptions" on July 30, 2020, is now void.

"The Agricultural Society Working Group for 2021 is hereby created to study and recommend protocols for the safe and hygienic operation of agricultural society fairs, and for festivals held by other organizations," the bill states.

The Working Group shall publish initial recommended protocols not later than April 10, 2021, the bill notes.
