Fort Frye FFA competes in several fall contests
The Fort Frye FFA has been very successful competing in Career Development Events since the start of the school year, virtually.
In September members participated in the Rural Soils Contest, students evaluated soil based on its physical characteristics, texture, and landform.
In addition, students suggest best management practices for rural use. In this contest, students placed second in the state of Ohio, earning them a chance to compete in the National Contest held in Oklahoma in May 2021. Members included Luke Huffman, Megan Becker, Taylor Haines, Isaiah Tullius, Zach Huffman and Morgan Kern. After soils, students began preparing for the Nature Interpretation and Job Interview contests. In the Nature CDE students must identify animal tracks, furs, skulls, as well as plants, insects and equipment. Members included Chris Cain, Kail Bauerbach, James Shuster, Megan Becker, Taylor Haines, Bryce Moncrief and Dash Barnes.
The Job Interview contest involves students participating in a formal interview and completing a follow-up letter.
Before the contest, students must submit a cover letter and resume and they must also fill out a job application. Participants included in the Freshmen Division, MaKenna Long who placed fourth, Sophomore Division, Lane Johns, seventh, Junior Division, Taylor Haines, seventh and Megan Becker, Senior Division, seventh.
Finally, the last contest for 2020 was Novice Parliamentary Procedure. In this contest, which is open to eighth and ninth grade students only, team members must work together to demonstrate Robert’s Rules of Order in a mock meeting, recite official FFA opening and closing ceremonies and take a written test over their knowledge. The Parli Team earned a Gold Rating and placed third in their District. Members included: Madyson Long, Wyatt Fulton, Dash Barnes, Kail Bauerbach, Maggie Fulton, MaKenna Long, Sydney Barnes, Alyssa Duskey and James Shuster.
