WCCC names students of month

The Washington County Career Center honors its December Students of the Month, Carly Grosklos and Ruslan Strahler.

Carly Grosklos is a Fort Frye senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and she is the daughter of Patrick and Michele Grosklos of Lowell.

Grosklos is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization and the National Technical Honor Society. At Fort Frye High School, she was active in Softball. At the Career Center, she received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List and Energy Bus Drivers Program for meeting all three criteria of 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. She currently has earned or is enrolled in both high school and college credit courses for English Composition, Introduction to Nutrition, Management of Athletic Injuries, Medical Terminology I&II, and Resistance Training.

In Sports Medicine & Exercise Science, Grosklos is receiving a technical focus and learning skills for anatomy and physiology; biomechanics; employability skills; exercise prescription; fitness assessment; health and physical fitness; injury and disease; medical terminology; rehabilitation treatment, sport and exercise nutrition; and sports psychology. Additionally, she earned industrial credentials and certifications in Stop the Bleed, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) during her junior year. In May 2021, she will sit for the Physical Therapy Technician Certification (PTTC) exam. Sports Medicine & Exercise Science instructor, Lauren Copen, commented on special traits and roles that Carly carries such as hard working, organized, good listener, excellent work ethic, reliable, and responsible.

Grosklos is currently employed with The Nutrition Fort in Beverly. After graduation, she plans to attend West Liberty, in Wheeling, to obtain a degree in dental hygiene.

Ruslan Strahler is a Waterford senior enrolled in the Sports Medicine & Exercise Science program, and he is the son of Teri Schilling of Beverly.

Strahler is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization and the Interact Club. At Waterford High School, he is active in basketball and track. He has received awards for the Career Center’s Principal List, Honor Roll, Merit Roll, and Energy Bus Drivers Program for meeting all three criteria of 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals. He currently has earned or is enrolled in both high school and college credit courses for College Algebra, Introduction to Nutrition, Management of Athletic Injuries, Medical Terminology I&II, and Resistance Training.

Strahler is currently employed with Jukebox Pizza in Waterford. Upon graduation, he plans to attend Washington State Community College for their Physical Therapy Assistant program and possibly transfer for an undecided major.
