Two killed in accident at fire scene

MARIETTA – Two people were killed Thursday night at a fire scene near Reno where a fire truck struck two pedestrians, the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The accident happened on County Nine Road where a truck from the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department was at a structure fire at 1177 County Nine Road, the patrol said in a release late Thursday night.

William A. Reed, 72, and Karolyn B. Reed, 72, were struck by Williamstown Pumper/Tanker 8 as it was backing at the scene, the patrol said. Both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased by the Washington County Coroner, the patrol said.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. and remains under investigation, the patrol said.

Also responding to the incident were the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington County Engineer’s Office, Washington County EMS, Washington County Coroner, Marietta Fire Department, Reno Volunteer Fire Department, Devola Volunteer Fire Department, Fearing Volunteer Fire Department and Lowell Adams Volunteer Fire Department.
