WILLIAMSTOWN — Williamstown Middle/High School held a dedication ceremony Friday for its new auditorium.
Jason Ward, Principal of Williamstown Middle/High School, welcomed the audience with a short speech before introducing the band.
“Our school and community appreciates all the hard work that has been put into this process to make this beautiful facility a reality,” said Ward. “We’re excited for all the opportunities that this will bring for our music programs, theater program, and countless other events that will be held for the benefit of our children.”
Ward said instead of a full speech, he would rather let the music programs display the power of the new auditorium.
Jed Corra, Band Director, introduced the Pride of Williamstown which performed the “Star Spangled Banner.” He mentioned that Williamstown had a successful band competition season, and placed second runner up for Grand Champion in its division.
“So we’re just going to keep on improving, keep growing and having fun while we’re doing it,” said Corra.
Kim Hunt, Choir Director, introduced the choir, before they sang the Williamstown High School Alma Mater.
“This auditorium and the state of the art lighting, sound system, and everything that is being provided for us is going to offer so many opportunities for the community, for these organizations, and the kids are so excited about the opportunities that are going to lie ahead,” said Hunt. “There’s something about not being in a gymnasium, about being on a stage that really pulls forth that attention, the lights, and it gives them that self-esteem.”
Pat Peters, former WHS principal, recollected the history of Williamstown schools. He said when he was principal, he was asked by the superintendent what the school needed, and he suggested an auditorium.
“I’m happy to say under the leadership of Superintendent Will Hosaflook, we’re standing in that requested auditorium, and Williamstown is truly a true middle school,” said Peters.
Ashley Clark, Williamstown Strings director, introduced the Williamstown Strings which performed “Bossa Nova Triste.” Clark said the auditorium was specifically created to show off the students’ hard work and will be enjoyed for decades to come.
Ward said the students who performed Friday showed why the school needed an auditorium.
Wood County Superintendent William Hosaflook attended the ceremony, as did members of the Wood County Board of Education.
“This auditorium is a welcome and long-awaited addition to Williamstown Middle/High School,” said Hosaflook. “This is a fitting venue for our hard-working and talented students and the wonderful music programs which support and encourage their love of the arts.”
