Washington Sheriff’s Office investigating report of needle in candy

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday that a sewing needle was found in a snack size KitKat bar.
Major Troy Hawkins said they believe the candy was obtained in Lowell during trick-or-treating.
“The resident ended up biting into it,” he said of how the needle was found. “There was no injury.”
Two pieces of candy in Fostoria were also found with needles, reported the Fostoria police.
Hawkins said he had no idea at this point of the two incidents are connected.
“We’re aware of the Fostoria incident, but to say if they are connected would be premature,” he said.
Hawkins said he couldn’t answer if there was a needle hole in the candy bar’s package.
If anyone is concerned about their Halloween candy, check it thoroughly, he said.
“Or don’t eat it,” he added. “If someone finds something suspicious, they should contact their local law enforcement.”
