Wednesday, what is believed to be an electrical fire at 215 Franklin St., Marietta, left a single mother and her six children, ages 3 to 11, homeless. A recent Facebook repost through Marietta Main Street West noted the landlord is preparing an apartment for the family in Parkersburg, but they do not yet have furnishings. While four of the children were at school, the mother and 3-year-old twins were home with family pets when the fire broke out. Everyone got out safely. The American Red Cross provided the family with funding to purchase some clothing for the children. Clothing needs are: 11-year-old boy wears 28/30 in men's and X-large shirts; 9-year-old girl wears size 8 medium in shirts and 10/12 in pants; 6-year-old boy wears 5T; 5-year-old boy wears 4T; and 3-year-old boy and girl twins wear 3T and 4T. Donations can be dropped off at the Building Bridges 2 Careers epicenter from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the BB2C makerspace until 7 p.m. BB2C is at 107 Lancaster St., Marietta, near the Washington County Boys & Girls Club and the Gospel Mission Food Pantry in Harmar.
